It is treated glass and harden for what reason I don't know. Your insurance will only cover up to 300 dollars, but KIA offers for 900 dollars a 10 yr warranty on windshield up to 3 replacements.

You can buy one replacement tire and have it shaved down to match the tread depth of the other three. This eliminates the problem.
