General Motors snapped up another award for its redesigned Corvette on Monday, further validating the company's overhaul of its vaunted sports car, while the Kia and Jeep brands also took home honors.
The winners of the North American Car, Utility and Truck of the Year Award were announced Monday in Detroit.
The Car of the Year award went to the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, the redesigned sports car sold by General Motors. GM engineers completely overhauled the 'Vette for the vehicle's eighth generation, moving the engine from underneath the hood to the vehicle's midsection. The Corvette also recently won the MotorTrend Car of the Year award.
The Utility of the Year award, given to the best crossover or SUV, went to the Kia Telluride. The Telluride has been a hit since it became the Korean brand's first three-row SUV. It also won the MotorTrend SUV of the Year award.
The Truck of the Year award went to the Jeep Gladiator, which is made by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. The Gladiator, which was first revealed at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show, debuted in showrooms in 2019 as a mid-size pickup with off-road flare. It is essentially a Jeep Wrangler with a pickup bed.
The winners were chosen by 50 reviewers who test-drive new vehicles throughout the year.
The car finalists were the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, Hyundai Sonata and Toyota Supra.
The utility finalists were the Hyundai Palisade, Kia Telluride and Lincoln Aviator.
The truck finalists Ford Ranger, Jeep Gladiator and Ram Heavy Duty.
The awards were historically announced during the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. But the event, known as the Detroit auto show, was moved to June this year for the first time. Award organizers decided to keep their reveal in January.
