A Teutonic flavor is on vivid display in the 2020 Kia Telluride, a handsome new midsize SUV that became available for journalists to test this week and has begun to arrive at the automaker’s 800 or so U.S. dealerships.
Telluride, a cousin of the Hyundai Palisade, could have been another big, visually boring box. Its look could have been generic Asian, like most of the early models from the Hyundai/Kia group. Instead the Kia design team in the automaker’s Irvine, California studio has managed to impart a bold, distinctive and adventurous presence to Kia’s first model conceived specifically for the U.S market.
With Palisade aimed at urban and suburban buyers using the vehicle primarily for everyday transportation, Telluride has been conceived by the automaker as a getaway vehicle, a younger, rowdier cousin that’s used to haul mountain bikes, surfboards, snowboards and other outdoors gear.
