Predicted reliability kinda sucks! Wonder what they based that on? Is it from feedback from their members?

Also, you don’t need LKA/LDW “ON” for semi-autonomous driving to work as stated.

I actually disable this from the dash switch because I don’t like the assist when driving and all that beeping. It makes the car feel unstable because it’s “fighting” my steering input around a bend.

For steering assist you’ll need the set the cruise control and the steering wheel will eventually turn green once it senses the lanes.

Consumer reports does an annual survey of all its members with very detailed questions regarding everything they purchase and any problems they've had of things they've purchased in prior years. They compile all of that data and take averages for each manufacturer's brand (and each model by year). Hence you get the rating of Kia. But if I remember correct, at least one of their models was pretty high. So we have to keep our fingers crossed that Kia got this one right and see what it really bears out.

An Overall Score of 90 and a Road Test Score of 97 are awesome! Personally, I'm not surprised at the Road Test Score, I actually thought it drove better than the Ascent. The Reliability Score is average. This is not a reflection on the Telluride, but on Kia as a whole. A better rating won't be known for another year, but a truly accurate score won't be known for another 3 years; CR states that the best data is an average of the last 3 model years. So, this score could go up......or it could go down???

That's great but a bit worried about reliability.. this will be the first time I am buying a Kia..
I wouldnt take their reliability rating seriously right now. The rating they gave it will likely change they usually just give it s safer score so average since there is no concrete data yet.

Do they apply same standard on manufacturers known to produce reliable cars i.e. Honda or Toyota? Such as new 2019 Rav4?
Similarly. The New honda passport is Average also and it just came out in february. Now Toyota and Lexus might be the exception and earn the light green and good rating based on a long running history. Just think about it tho, how would consumer reports know how reliable a car that has been out 2 months. Its a educated guess the first year the car is out then the following year when there is sufficient data they update the scores. The Newly redesigned 2018 Hyundai santa fe might be a good baseline on a completely new Hyundai Kia suv and its light green and Good category. The Telluride is built at the same factory the Sorento is and it has steadily received Good reliability ratings.

I guess this is good news if you own or are about to own one but bad news (higher demand, lower availability and MAYBE higher prices) if you haven't already pulled the plug. And as far as reliability, I been a subscriber to CR for probably 45 years and I get those in-depth reliability surveys every year and I fill them out every year. For the last 5+ years I leased GMC Acadia's, CR has consistently given them low ratings for a variety of things. Real world experiences (well, at least mine), my 2 Acadia's have been 2 of the most reliable and exceptionally performing cars I've ever driven and I've driven a lot of cars, I've been leasing since 1992. YMMV...

You must be one of the lucky ones then. I haven't and will not own a GM product ever again.I have owned 6 of them all my life and the best one (86 Olds Cierra) lasted the longest without a catastrophic failure.. made it to 86,000 miles. Although the paint cracked and peeled off just about the whole car. I just don't have luck with GM products and have finally quit trying.

Well I do lease my vehicles so maybe I get rid of them early enough to avoid any issues. My low mileage Corvette is 14 years old and other then a few minor maintenance issues has never given me a lick of trouble and still runs like new. Maybe just lucky as you said...

The Ascent started out with a 93 with a 3 in reliability and 4 in owner satisfaction. They do update as the release goes by. Given the scores I think the telluride, if kia does not mess up too bad, will top out a 96 or 97.

Does the survey come out for each model year?

Yes. However for some models a particular year may not have enough data for them to compile. All you need to do is look at any April issue of consumer reports and you will see what they do. Your local library will have it and may even make it available to you online.

Thank you the explanation, I've always wondered how they compiled the data.
