Our 2020 Telluride outside temperature does not have our town as a location so we never know what the temperature is outside our vehicle. Does this need a software update? I have never seen a vehicle not have a current exact location exterior temperature before.
There is a persistent exterior temp display in your instrument cluster. That’s what the vehicle is reading.
If you have an older version of the infotainment system, the weather display on the center screen is getting HD Radio weather data. Of course, that is not always going to be available close to where you are, or at all. If it’s unavailable, it’ll fall back to your car’s ambient temp sensor.
If you have any of the last five versions of the infotainment system, the weather info comes from connected services (UVO/Kia Connect). It will be more localized to where you actually are, but might not be available if you don’t subscribe.
You can update your infotainment at
update.kia.com. But beware and read up before you do if you don’t like change, because there are some noticeable UI and UX changes.
