Windshield chips and cracks

All I'm thinking is that if you can prove the glass is randomly cracking then you'll probably have a case but in most of the images it looks like a foreign object hit the glass causing a small crack which then became a bigger crack. If I'm Kia I'm asking "How do we know that the object hitting and damaging the window didn't cause the glass failure"? That happens more often than not and I'm guessing it would be on you to prove it didn't...good luck anyway!

Ok just reporting to you all. I had a cracked right passenger window after 2 weeks. You all nice folks let me know that I it was hit by something. I was in the car and noted NO loud noise. Of course we have all had rocks kick up and know that sound. So ok, I got it fixed.
Fast forward 2 months, look what popped up on my windshield now. A crack from the base of deep into the hood up towards the roof.
Of course I will fix it and report to KIA πŸ˜³πŸ˜’πŸ˜–πŸ˜«
PS. Not the best pictures but you can see

It would be helpful to know the trim levels of those affected as well. I found this info online:
  • Glass: Acoustic windshields are standard, and the front door windows are also acoustic on the EX and SX trim.
  • Acoustic windshields have a clear layer of acoustic vinyl between two glass layers. The acoustic vinyl dampens noise transmission, making the vehicle cab quieter. Acoustic windshields meet all the same safety standards as traditional windshields.

Just an update- KIA contacted me to review. They would like to work with a technician to check it out. They are calling me β€˜patient zero’. They want to make sure there isn’t a larger issue. Offered me a loaner. Very impressed with their response and my conversation with them.
Ps. Just got back from a 3500 road trip. Car did great- oh and had a noise on the front windshield and guess what- a chip. This one didn’t cause a crack. So for anyone commenting about rocks, I agree something is hitting the windshield but there is no durability. 3 cracks/chip in 3 months. Just bad luck?...😊😊

One more Telluride owner with recently cracked windshield, less than 1,000 miles driven. Have owned several vehicles and had some really loud stones/pebbles hits to windshields over the years, some producing rather big but localized damages. Never a properly cracked windshield. This did not sound like a big pebble, but Texas heat helped the crack to spread across the windshield within a day. Not a happy Telluride owner as I can see us replacing several windshields or maybe we just replace the car.

So I was driving on interstate and no one was directly in front of me; however, there was a car 2-3 car lengths up ahead on the right. I heard what sounded like a splat (never saw a rock ) and my front windshield has a big crack in it. I just assumed it was a rock, but Im online this evening looking up info about seatbelt recalls and I see all the complaints about the windshields....πŸ€”

Update: KIA arranged a loaner car, inspected the windshield and have determined there was impact. Of course I knew there was impact. After reviewing my case they offered to replace for free. Goodwill gesture. The part has been on order for 2 months now and no ETA. They offered the rental until it is fixed. I have been impressed with the KIA contacts and resolution. I am sure if I get another crack, they will hear from me again. Wish you all had the same experience with the KIA team.

I would say report it. We used to own a 2003 Honda Element (first year of production) and in 9 years went though 3 windshields. There was a design issue with the early models having to due with extra stress on the windshield from the frame of the vehicle.. Small incidents became complete failures. First windshield we lost was hit by a small rock on the freeway and 40 minutes later the entire windshield was a big spider web. I don't think we paid for any of the replacements, Honda covered at least 2 if not all. Although the last one was super thick glass and off gassed adhesive for months.
