Wireless Android Auto update

While I'm hoping that I will end up with a '23 Telluride SX Prestige Nightfall with my order that I recently placed, there's no guarantee that it will have wireless Android Auto, right?! Android Auto is actually what led me to place my order recently, even though having the wireless variety is what I really want. Instead of spending the time and money to upgrade the stereo in my '16 Sorento, I'm upgrading to a '22/'23 Telluride. Anyway, I found this article this evening while flipping through my Flipboard while waiting for pizza at a local shop.

No. No Telluride ever produced supports wireless CarPlay or Android Auto. In fact, no Hyundai or Kia with a 10.25” or larger infotainment system supports wireless CarPlay or Android Auto.

Certain 2021+ Hyundai/Kia models with 8” non-navigation infotainment systems support wireless CarPlay and Android Auto. But that’s it.

Because the system that’s in the Telluride, the 10.25” infotainment with navigation, does not have WiFi and thus does not support wireless CarPlay or Android Auto. Like I said, no large-screen Hyundai/Kia infotainment system offers this feature. This shortcoming is not unique to the Telluride. Your guess is as good as mine. I’m not too hopeful, especially considering they just introduced their new electric cars (Kia EV6/Hyundai Ioniq 5) without adding it on the larger units with navigation. Seems like that would have been a great time to do it.

Do you think this product from Motorola (link below and initial post of this thread) will work as advertised with the '22/'23 Telluride? I assume, from Telluride's perspective, it will be identical to having my phone actually plugged into the USB port. Thoughts?

Yep, this would work great in any Telluride. I have already seen several people who have gotten theirs.

It’s really practically not any different than AAWireless other than offering better availability (i.e., not crowdfunded). I have personally used AAWireless for Android Auto and CPlay2Air for CarPlay with success. They all mimic a plugged in phone as far as the car is concerned.

Not sure what you’re trying to do here. You can’t magically make the Telluride support wireless Android Auto by pushing some buttons on your phone. Plus, every phone running at least Android 11 (and many before it) has wireless Android Auto support out of the box, no fancy settings required.

Yes, it works great! I ordered and received the Motorola MA1 a couple of days ago... now, I'm enjoying wireless Android Auto without any hassle. Great solution.

Does the Motorola device work OK with 2 phones? Can you choose which phone it pairs with when you start the car?

I haven't really tested it that way, but I believe it's working well with my wife's Android along with mine. I haven't seen any conflicts when starting the vehicle and both our phones are in range. It defaults to mine typically since I'm usually the primary user. I assume it will automatically pair with the last successful connection when given a choice. I'll try to test some scenarios and report back. It's been a fantastic solution for us so far.
