Just wondering if anyone has heard if the replacement glass is now tempered differently or less prone to chip/crack issues that the factory installed windshield? I see one post from a fellow Canadian owner who said their dealer covered it, but if others don't, it might be time to intiate a class action to get their attention.

Is this issue exclusively on the 2020 Telly’s or has KIA done any refinements on the 2021’s ? I have installed a bug deflector and so far no chips. I’m hoping this will decrease chances of a major repair .

We had it happen last week to our 2020 that was bought Feb 2. I remember getting a letter but now cant find it at all. My local dealer is telling me I have to have that letter for the to cover it. I just got off the phone with Kia Customer relations and they told me that ours has the new windshield that shouldnt crack like this. I dont know what else to do. And of course they dont have record of the letter being sent out.

Sorry to hear you experienced this. I'm just a load of anxiety every time I'm on the road now because of concern of the cost of replacing the windshield. In your conversation with Kia Customer Relations, did they indicate when the "new windshield" glass started being installed in our Tellurides? I have a 2020 as well, but from a May build date. It would be interesting to know when the better glass started getting installed, or, if this is merely a tactic to have folks back away from claims.

They did give a date of middle Dec 2019. I dont remember the exact date now, wanna say like the 19th or something like that. Mine has a build date of 1/2x so they claim i have the new windshield.

I just got a stone chip in my 2020 Telluride (5,200 miles) windshield on Dec. 15, 2020. It is a fairly deep chip and one inch in diameter, but the cracks don't go outside the crack (yet). After contacting Kia Customer Service, I was told that the "Goodwill Gesture/Letter" only applied to T-Rides manufactured in Dec. 2019 or earlier, and Tellurides after that date have the "correct windshield". Mine was manufactured in March 2020, so I was told I have to go through my insurance to have it repaired. Disappointing with that few of miles! Certainly haven't had that with multiple other vehicles. Insurance is pushing to just repair the chip, not replace the windshield. I have had small windshield repairs on other cars, and they are still quite noticeable. This one is at eye level and just left of directly ahead vision. A repair of this seems like a huge pimple on the face of a beautiful person/vehicle. Telluride's fragile windshield leaves me concerned about taking our annual 2500 mile road trip in it.

It's unfortunate, and I feel for you... but the reality is what smacked your windshield was not insignificant in size if it created a one inch diameter crater. This isn't from a pea sized rock that's resulted in a crack covering your entire winshield. So as much as I hate to say it, it sounds like you have a properly manufactured windshield... but you were unfortunate enough to get hit by an object that any windshield would suffer damnage from. And it could have happened on your drive home the day you picked the vehicle up from the dealer. Don't worry about your long road trip. Windshield chips happen, and it's not like you can plan around them. Sure, there are things you can do to minimize the risk... like avoiding travel behind or in close proximity to trucks, and staying off gravel roads, but that's about it. There are windshield films you can have installed now, but I'm unsure of cost or long term visibility... in other words, do they become scratched and opague as they age? My suspician is yes, but that's rampant speculation. I don't know of anyone who's actually had the stuff installed on their vehicle.

My recommendation is to photograph the damage from both inside and outside the vehiicle, and one taken specifically from the driver's view position. Send that to your insurance adjuster and request a windshield replacement (again). If they refuse a second time, then you have two options. The first is to proceed with the repair, and then take the same photographs from the same locations again. If you believe your vision is impaired by the repair quality, once again, contact your insurance adjuster and ask for replacement. If they refuse, you can then either contact the Better Business Bureau for arbitration, or take them to small claims court for a settlement in the amount of the windshield repair along with some amount for punitive damages. Best wishes for success...

I had a fairly good experience when replacing my windshield with respect to getting it approved, but the dealer wasn't great. A stone cracked my windshield and created a 1" crater. My dealer took pictures, then had to take pictures again bc the first set wasn't good enough for Kia to approve the replacement. Next, the windshield was delivered, I dropped off my Telluride, but the got a call that the new windshield had a crack, so I had to wait 2 more weeks to get the whole thing settled. All in all, the whole thing took 5-6 weeks.
